“后来”/“然后”
“然后”连接两个接连发生的动作。在时间上，这两个动作是紧挨在一起的。“后来连接的不是两个简单的很快能完成的时间，而是两种持续较长时间的情况，这两种情况在时间上不是紧挨在一起的。
“然后”is to link two successive actions, which are tightly close with one another from the time sequence. The function of “后来” is to link two situations which last for a long time, instead of connecting two actions which can be finished quickly. The two situations are not tightly close with each other from the time sequence.
·我们先一起去公园划了划船，然后又找了家饭馆一起吃饭。
wǒ men xiān yī qǐ qù gōng yuán huá le huá chuán, rán hòu yòu zhǎo le jiā fàn guǎn yī qǐ chī fàn.
·我们下车休息了一下，然后就开始爬长城。
wǒ men xià chē xiū xi le yī xià, rán hòu jiù kāi shǐ pá zhǎng chéng.

“以后”/“然后”
“以后”和“然后”都可以连接先后做的两个动作。
Both “以后”and “然后”can link two successive actions.
“以后”最想告诉别人的是后面的动作。“然后”前后的两件事都是说话人要告诉对方的情况。前后的两个动作都很重要。
With the word “以后”, the speaker intends to stress the second action. The actions in front of and after the word “然后”in one sentence both are the content that the speaker intends to stress. The two actions are at the same importance.
·第一次碰到你以后，我常常想你。
dì yī cì pèng dào nǐ yǐ hòu, wǒ cháng cháng xiǎng nǐ.
·从桂林回来以后，我们还没见过面呢。
cóng guì lín huí lái yǐ hòu, wǒ men hái méi jiàn guò miàn ne.
·她换上了自己最漂亮的衣服，然后开车出去了。
tā huàn shàng le zì jǐ zuì piào liang de yī fu, rán hòu kāi chē chū qù le.
·他先跟小王说了一遍，然后又跟妈妈说了一遍。
tā xiān gēn xiǎo wáng shuō le yī biàn, rán hòu yòu gēn mā ma shuō le yī biàn.
