25 June // 10am // XMandarin & Han Dynasty Museum
XMandarin wants to teach their students more than just our language. That’s why every once in a while our activities are directly related to the Chinese culture. This month we’revisiting the Han Dynasty brick museum. The Han Dynasty was an important periodin Chinese history. Besides everything else it was the base for the current Chinese language (Han yu). As a Chinese language school that’s reason enough for us to pay this museum a visit.
Around thirty years ago, Zhang Xinkuan who was a young army officer at the time, discovered carvings inthe huge granite slabs while trying to lay down a road. After his discovery, Zhang put his entire life savings into finding these relics.
These carvings document ancient Chinese life 2000 years ago. In total he excavated and saved over 5000Han Dynasty relics. Zhang wants to protect the Chinese heritage. He decided hewould never sell, exchange or give a single brick to anyone. Now they are forthe public to see at the south western foot of Lao Shan.
We meet at 10AM at our school. You can also meet us in front of the museum if that is more convenient. We will enjoy everything the museum has to offer us and before the end the visitors will have the opportunity to recreate some relics of their own.
