Chinese Characters in 10 Days
When living in China, a non-native speaker might easily gain proficiency in speaking Chinese, but may still have difficulty writing and reading. This may lead to some issues.
For example, when looking for a new restaurant on an app, you might not be able to read the information. This may lead to issues as you won’t be able to discover the best dishes or beverages—you might not even be able to know the address! Or, when you’re trying to find a new place, you won’t be able to read the characters on the bus and miss the stop entirely. Maybe you are having to sign a document and it’s only available in Chinese. How will you know what you’re signing? Then, when you go back to your home country, how will you show off your new language skills?

Studying Chinese requires a lot of time. Even native speakers have to study characters for five years while in school. Even then, the native speakers still need to practice or they might forget. Foreigners are just as susceptible to this.
Especially for foreigners working in China, they might focus more on speaking Chinese than learning characters, leading to large gap between their oral Chinese and their reading and writing abilities.
