Tiger
Long ago, the Tiger was an unknown animal on Earth. After he learned martial arts
from his master, the Cat, the Tiger became a warrior in the forest, Later on, the
Emperor of Heaven heard his story and asked the Tiger to fight with his bodyguard.
Fortunately he won the battle, and has been a guard of the Heavenly Palace ever
since.
Before long, some monsters acted impetuously against the laws on Earth, so the
Emperor of Heaven sent the Tiger to arrest them. He defeated the lion, the Bear
and the Horse one by one with his excellent skills in martial arts. The Tiger then
became a hero because of his great contributions to the world.
Because of his bravery, the Emperor of Heaven carved three parallel lines on the
Tiger’s forehead as a reward. A vertical line that crossed them was later rewarded
when he killed the Monster Turtle who threatened people on Earth, That is why the
Chinese character “王”(meaning king)is on the Tiger’s forehead.
The Lion was also among the Chinese Zodiac animals in ancient times. However,
the Emperor of Heaven had heard about his ferocious reputation and decided to
replace him with an animal that could manage the forest. So the Emperor of Heaven
thought that the Tiger was a good candidate. Since then ,he became one of the
Chinese Zodiac animals and came down to Earth to protect the world.
