The Four Buddist Mountains

In China, most scenic resorts are mountains embellished with temples and grottoes of 
Buddhism or Daoism, which served as the state religion alternatively in Chinese history. 
The most well-known amoung the are the Five Sacred Mountains, the four mountains of 
religions and four well-knowgrottoes taking the head respectively. Now let’s me introduce 
the four buddist mountains. 
 
1.Mount Wutai（五台山wǔ tái shān）
Mount Wutai is located in Wutai county of Shanxi Province. It is said the scared site 
connected to Manjusri Bodhisattva （文殊菩萨Wénshū Púsà）, The one with all the 
wisdom of thr universe.
 
2.Mount Emei（峨眉山 é méi shān）
Mount Emei is located in Emei Shan city ,Sichuan Province. It is famous as the place of 
Samantabhadra Bodhisattva （普贤菩萨Pǔxián Púsà ）.The gilding statue of Samantabhadra 
Bodhisattva riding an elephant, 48m in height, 600tons in weight, was completed on June 
18,2006. Buddha’s Halo（佛光 fó guāng）in one of the most famous scenic spots of Mount 
Emei.
 
3.Mount Jiuhua （九华山 jiǔ huà shān）   
Mount Jiuhua is located in Qingyang County （青阳县）, Anhui Province ,the place of 
embodiment of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva.
 
4.Mount Putuo （普陀山 pǔ tuó shān）
Mount Putuo is the group of islands at the coast of the East China Sea, in Zhoushan city, 
Zhejiang Province.Mount Putuo is the place of Bodhisattva Guanyin (the Goddess of Mercy ), 
the goddess who is watching or hearing the suffering of human world.
