The trip to Pi Chai Yuan and Qingdao old town

XMandarin’s Explorers of Qingdao met again last Tuesday to do their second trip.

This expedition allowed us to travel back in time and enjoy the real taste and culture of the city.

We started our tour in the narrow alley ways of Pi Chai Yuan(劈柴院 pīcháiyuàn). We could try a wide variety of tasty food; ranging from tofu and squid to star fishor scorpions!! The most adventurous explorers barely hesitated to try these peculiar snacks.

After that we moved around the Old Town contemplating some of the German architecture due to its occupation at the beginning of 20th century. St. Michael’s Cathedral(天主教堂 tiānzhǔ jiàotáng), a perfect spot for Chinese wedding pictures,is just a small sample of the Western influence.

Then, we had a small break and went to one of the cosiest coffee-shops in the city; where we could have a nice chat and know more about other explorers.

Finally we went to Zhan Qiao pier(栈桥 zhànqiáo), one of the top scenes of our city and famous logo of Tsingtao beer. Despite it wasn’t a sunny day, it is always a pleasure to go to the seaside. We could also enter to the Chinese style octagon pavilion and see an exhibition of the history of this iconic bridge.

We do this kind of expeditions every two weeks and we hope you join us the next time.
