Rat

The Mouse became one of the twelve Zondiac animals because of his smart tricks.
The Emperor of Heaven once announced that one of the preconditions of being a
Zodiac animal candidate was: arrive early. The Mouse didn't receive an invitation,
but he wanted very much to be the Zodiac animal. So he lied to the Cat: “hey brother
Cat, I’m going to the Heaven and register for you, you can just stay here and rest for
a while.” The Cat was hardworking and kind; he believed the mouse and went to
rest. The Mouse then said to the Cow: “You will feel bored and lonely going to Heaven
by yourself, why not let me sit on your back and accompany you?” The Cow thought
he was probably right, so he let the Mouse sit on his back.
The next day, the Cow and the Mouse got up very early. They talked and laughed on
the way. Then, right before they stepped through the gate of Heaven, the Mouse
jumped off the Cow’s back and he became the first animal to arrive in Heaven. The
Emperor of Heaven had no way to retract what he had before about arriving early so
the Mouse became one of the twelve Zodiac animals.
Since the mouse betrayed the Cat using such lousy tricks, the Cat never forgave
him, even mow cats will still chase mice like hell.
鼠能当上生肖，靠的是它的小聪明，玉帝选生肖时说：谁能先到达天宫，谁就能当上生肖。当时鼠没有接到邀请函，于是骗猫说“猫大哥，我给你去报名，你先休息一会儿。”猫每天都很辛苦，于是睡起觉来。鼠又跟牛说：“牛大哥途中一个人无聊，我坐在背上给你唱歌吧。”牛也觉得会孤单，所以同意了鼠的提议。
第二天，牛和鼠很早就起来了，一路上有说有笑，快到天宫时，鼠从牛背上一跃而下，第一个跑到玉帝面前说道：我是来报名当生肖的。”玉帝并没有邀请鼠来当生肖，可是君无戏言，当时说了只要能到天宫就能当生肖，由于鼠第一个到达，理所当然地当上了生肖。
因为鼠背叛了猫，所以到现在猫还是见了老鼠就抓。
